Smart Home Automation App
Each device in your home is different. Each one controls different aspects of your home. Even similar devices from different brands will act differently. For this project, I designed an app, specifically for Android, that manages and automates all of your smart devices.
Branding
Branding was an integral part of this interface’s design. I was inspired by serving robots at restaurants. Then, playing off the word “automation”, I came up with “Otto” for a friendly digital helper that inhabits and controls all of the smart devices connected to the app.

A big part of bringing Otto to life as a friendly digital helper was their eyes. I accomplished this through micro animations. Not only do Otto’s eyes inhabit the devices, but they move gesturally to convey curiosity and responsiveness when changes are made.
The name "Otto" plays off of the word “automation” and becomes friendly digital helper.

For this smart light, Otto's eyes follow the color changes, conveying curiosity and responsiveness.
