This is a series of illustrations that I made in 2020 when I started my first semester of college. With the pandemic it was a new experience for everybody and it was definitely hard sometimes. For this reason, I decided to start making illustrations inspired by things that gave me comfort, whether that was connecting with others online or movies.

I made this illustration after visiting Solvang on vacation. I found the buildings to be very interesting because there aren’t any like them where I live. When I started this artwork, traced one of the photos I took. To make it look more stylized, I decided to only use shades of teal and brown.

Inspired by travel stickers, I wanted to create something to document my trip to Palm Springs. I sketched anything that caught my eye while on the road or exploring the city. At the end of each day, I thought about what I liked most and turned it into an illustration.

On the first day of my trip, I spent most of the time in the car. Something that I found to be really interesting was the way the hills and mountains fade and appear to have a blue tint the farther they are into the distance.

The next day, I went to the Living Zoo which was about half and hour to an hour away from Palm Springs. Using what I learned about mountains the previous day, I created an illustration with a couple of the animals I saw at the zoo.

On the last day, contrary to the first, I saw how as I got closer to home, the straighter the road got.

I challenged myself to make an illustration using a limited color palette everyday for 21 days. As the challenge went on, I found myself getting more creative with the styles of illustration that I used, which was very satisfying.
